Artist Statement: “A Pause”
“A Pause” reflects the emotional and environmental burdens quietly weighing on us in the rush of modern life. At its heart is a masked woman—more than a symbol of pandemic caution, she embodies a deeper call for silence, withdrawal, and introspection amid a world in turmoil.
Though COVID-19 recedes, the heat rises; air quality worsens; ecosystems quietly collapse. Birds, once free and abundant, now cling to transmitter cables—forced to adapt to shrinking habitats. Among them, a single dead bird whispers of the hidden cost of unchecked progress and human neglect.
The mask returns, not only as a shield against disease, but as protection from the toxic legacy we’ve forged.
A Pause asks us to stop—to reflect on the fragile thread that binds us to nature. It warns that if we do not change course, the world we know may vanish, leaving little for those who follow.
Through this work, I invite viewers to awaken, to engage in conversation, and to renew their bond with the living earth.
